The Patangini Dhar – Auden’s Col – Mayali Pass Expedition is an extreme high-altitude traverse connecting the sacred valleys of Gangotri and Kedarnath through remote glacier systems and three major Himalayan passes.

This expedition takes trekkers across rugged terrain, steep snow slopes, moraine fields, and heavily crevassed glaciers. The route offers breathtaking views of iconic Himalayan peaks such as Thalay Sagar, Jogin I, and Gangotri III.

The journey includes crossing:

  • Patangini Dhar (~5,085 m)
  • Auden’s Col (5,490 m) – the highest and most technical section
  • Mayali Pass (~4,990 m)

This expedition is suitable only for experienced trekkers with prior high-altitude and technical trekking experience.

Patangini Dhar – Auden’s Col – Mayali Pass Expedition (Gangotri to Kedarnath Traverse)

Day 1 – Rishikesh → Uttarkashi
Distance: 170 km
Driving Time: 7–8 hrs
Drive along the Bhagirathi valley via Narendra Nagar, Chamba and Dharasu Bend to reach Uttarkashi, the mountaineering hub of Garhwal Himalayas.
Overnight: Hotel

Day 2 – Uttarkashi → Gangotri
Distance: 100 km
Driving Time: 4–5 hrs
Altitude: 3,048 m
Drive via the scenic Harsil valley to reach Gangotri, the sacred source region of the River Ganga.
Visit Gangotri Temple and prepare for the expedition.
Overnight: Guesthouse

Day 3 – Gangotri → Bhoj Kharak
Distance: 8 km
Trek Time: 4–5 hrs
Altitude: ~3,415 m
The trail follows the Kedar Ganga valley, entering dense alpine forests and steep mountain terrain.
Camp in the meadow of Bhoj Kharak.

Day 4 – Bhoj Kharak → Kedar Kharak
Distance: 5–6 km
Trek Time: 4 hrs
Altitude: ~4,315 m
The trail climbs steeply along the Kedar Ganga valley with magnificent views of Thalay Sagar and Bhrigupanth peaks.
Camp at Kedar Kharak meadow.

Day 5 – Kedar Kharak → Kedartal → Return to Kedar Kharak
Distance: 8 km round trip
Trek Time: 5–6 hrs
Altitude: 4,760 m
Climb to the glacial lake Kedartal, located beneath the dramatic peak Thalay Sagar.
Return to Kedar Kharak camp.

Day 6 – Kedar Kharak → Patangini Dhar Base
Distance: 7 km
Trek Time: 5–6 hrs
Altitude: ~4,540 m
Gradual ascent over rocky slopes and moraine terrain to reach the base of Patangini Dhar.
Camp with views of the surrounding glacier basin.

Day 7 – Cross Patangini Dhar → Dhabba Camp (Rudugaira Valley)
Distance: 9 km
Trek Time: 6–7 hrs
Pass Altitude: ~5,085 m
Climb to Patangini Dhar, then descend into the Rudugaira valley.
Camp at Dhabba campsite near the glacier basin.

Day 8 – Dhabba → Auden’s Col Advanced Base Camp
Distance: 6–7 km
Trek Time: 5–6 hrs
Altitude: ~4,975 m
Gradual ascent over glacier moraine and snowfields toward the base of Auden’s Col.
Camp at advanced base camp.

Day 9 – Cross Auden’s Col → Khatling Glacier Camp
Distance: 10 km
Trek Time: 9–10 hrs
Pass Altitude: 5,490 m
The most technical day of the expedition.
Climb steep snow slopes to Auden’s Col, then descend across the crevassed Khatling Glacier.
Camp on the glacier.

Day 10 – Khatling Glacier → Khatling Base Camp
Distance: 12 km
Trek Time: 7–8 hrs
Traverse glacier terrain and descend toward the valley floor.
Camp at base camp.

Day 11 – Khatling Base → Chowki
Distance: 8 km
Trek Time: 5–6 hrs
Cross the Bhilangna river and trek through alpine meadows.

Day 12 – Chowki → Masar Tal
Distance: 7 km
Trek Time: 5 hrs
Altitude: ~4,550 m
Climb to the glacial lake Masar Tal.

Day 13 – Masar Tal → Cross Mayali Pass → Vasuki Tal
Distance: 11 km
Trek Time: 8–9 hrs
Pass Altitude: ~4,990 m
Cross Mayali Pass and descend to Vasuki Tal.

Day 14 – Vasuki Tal → Kedarnath
Distance: 7 km
Trek Time: 3–4 hrs
Reach Kedarnath temple town and visit the shrine.

Day 15 – Kedarnath → Gaurikund → Guptkashi
Distance: 16 km trek + drive
Descend and drive to Guptkashi.

Day 16 – Guptkashi → Rishikesh
Distance: ~200 km
Driving Time: 8–9 hrs
Drive via Rudraprayag and Devprayag.
Expedition concludes.
