The Kalindi Khal Trek is one of the most challenging high-altitude trekking expeditions in the Indian Himalayas. This legendary traverse connects the sacred valleys of Gangotri and Badrinath by crossing the Kalindi Khal Pass (5,950 m).
The trek passes through glaciers, moraine fields, and rugged alpine terrain, offering breathtaking views of some of the highest peaks in the Himalayas including Shivling, Meru, Bhagirathi peaks, Kedar Dome, Nilkanth, Kamet, and Abi Gamin.
This expedition-grade trek requires technical glacier travel using ropes, crampons, and mountaineering skills, making it suitable only for experienced trekkers.

Kalindi Khal Trek Expedition (Gangotri to Badrinath Traverse)
Day 1 – Rishikesh to Uttarkashi
Drive: 170 km | 7–8 hrs
Morning departure from Rishikesh. Drive through the scenic Bhagirathi valley via Chamba and Dharasu Bend to reach Uttarkashi.

Day 2 – Uttarkashi to Gangotri
Drive: 100 km | 4–5 hrs
Altitude: 3,050 m
Drive along the Bhagirathi River through Harsil Valley to reach Gangotri. Visit the temple and prepare for trek.
Overnight: Guesthouse
Meals: Breakfast, Dinner
Day 3 – Acclimatization Day at Gangotri
Short hikes around Gangotri including:
- Surya Kund
- Pandava Gufa
- Bhagirath Shila
Overnight: Gangotri
Day 4 – Gangotri to Bhojbasa
Distance: 14 km | 5–6 hrs
Altitude: 3,658 m
Trek through pine forests and glacier valley.

Day 5 – Bhojbasa – Gaumukh – Tapovan
Distance: 12 km | 5–6 hrs
Altitude: 4,463 m
Reach Gaumukh, cross glacier, climb to Tapovan beneath Mt. Shivling.
Overnight: Camp
Day 6 – Tapovan to Nandanvan
Distance: 10 km | 5 hrs
Altitude: 4,500 m
Glacier traverse to Nandanvan.
Overnight: Camp
Day 7 – Nandanvan to Vasuki Tal
Distance: 6–7 km
Gradual climb to Vasuki Tal.
Overnight: Camp
Day 8 – Vasuki Tal to Khara Pathar
Altitude: ~5,400 m
Moraine and glacier terrain.
Overnight: Camp
Day 9 – Khara Pathar to Sweta Glacier
Trek across glacier and snow fields.

Day 10 – Sweta Glacier to Kalindi Base Camp
Reach Base Camp before pass crossing.
Overnight: Camp
Day 11 – Kalindi Base Camp – Kalindi Khal Pass – Rajaparav
Altitude: 5,950 m
Cross the Kalindi Khal Pass using ropes and crampons.
Descend to Rajaparav.
Overnight: Camp
Day 12 – Rajaparav to Arwa Tal
Descend into Arwa Valley.
Overnight: Camp
Day 13 – Arwa Tal to Ghastoli
Trek through meadows and river valley.
Overnight: Camp
Day 14 – Ghastoli to Mana Village – Badrinath
Distance: 18 km
Trek to Mana Village, then drive to Badrinath.
Overnight: Hotel
Day 15 – Badrinath to Rishikesh
Drive: 290 km | 10–11 hrs
Return journey via Joshimath, Karnaprayag, Rudraprayag, Devprayag.
