Mount Satopanth (7,075 m) is one of the prominent climbing peaks in the Garhwal Himalayas, located within Gangotri National Park. The expedition route follows the sacred Bhagirathi River valley to Gaumukh Glacier and further into the high-altitude basin of Nandanvan.

The Base Camp is established near Vasuki Tal, surrounded by majestic Himalayan peaks like Shivling, Thalay Sagar, and Bhagirathi III.

This expedition involves glacier crossings, steep snow climbs, and a knife-edge ridge ascent to the summit, offering an unforgettable high-altitude mountaineering experience.

All participants must carry high-altitude mountaineering insurance including helicopter rescue coverage before joining the expedition.

25 Nights / 26 Days

Mount Satopanth Expedition

Day 1 – Arrival in Delhi
Arrival at Delhi International Airport. Our expedition team will receive you and transfer you to your hotel.
Overnight: Hotel


Day 2 – Delhi to Rishikesh
Drive to Rishikesh, known as the yoga capital of the world and the gateway to the Himalayas.
Overnight: Hotel


Day 3 – Rishikesh to Uttarkashi
Drive through scenic mountain roads to Uttarkashi, an important mountaineering hub of the Garhwal Himalayas.
Overnight: Hotel


Day 4 – Uttarkashi to Gangotri
Drive to the sacred Himalayan pilgrimage town of Gangotri, located at the source region of the Ganges.
Overnight: Guesthouse / Camp


Day 5 – Gangotri to Bhojbasa
The trekking phase begins with a scenic trek along the Bhagirathi River valley to Bhojbasa.
Distance: 14 km
Overnight: Camp


Day 6 – Bhojbasa to Gaumukh – Nandanvan
Trek to Gaumukh Glacier, the sacred source of the Ganges River, and continue across the glacier to Nandanvan.
Overnight: Camp


Day 7 – Nandanvan to Vasuki Tal Base Camp
Trek toward Vasuki Tal, the beautiful alpine lake where the expedition Base Camp is established.
Overnight: Base Camp


Day 8 – Base Camp Acclimatization
Rest day at Base Camp. Training in glacier travel, rope techniques, and safety procedures.


Day 9 – Load Ferry to Camp I
Climbers carry equipment toward Camp I and return to Base Camp.


Day 10 – Move to Camp I
Climb gradually to establish Camp I on the Satopanth glacier.


Day 11 – Acclimatization Climb
Climb higher along the route and return to Camp I.


Day 12 – Return to Base Camp
Descend to Base Camp for rest and recovery before the summit push.


Climbing Phase

Day 13 – Camp I Load Ferry to Camp II (5800 m)
Climbers carry loads to Camp II and return to Camp I.


Day 14 – Rest Day and Load Ferry
Rest and additional load ferry to Camp II.


Day 15 – Camp I to Camp II
Move permanently to Camp II.


Day 16 – Camp II to Summit Camp (6200 m)
Climb to Summit Camp along steep slopes and a dramatic knife-edge ridge. Camp is established above a hanging glacier.


Day 17 – Summit Attempt – Mount Satopanth (7075 m)
Early morning summit push to the top of Mount Satopanth. After reaching the summit, descend back to Camp II.


Day 18 – Day 19 – Reserve Summit Days
Two reserve days kept for bad weather or additional summit attempt.


Day 20 – Day 21 – Descent to Base Camp
The team descends gradually from Camp II back to Base Camp. High altitude porters assist with equipment.


Return Journey

Day 22 – Base Camp to Bhojbasa
Trek back to Bhojbasa.
Distance: 20 km


Day 23 – Bhojbasa to Gangotri – Drive to Uttarkashi
Trek to Gangotri and drive to Uttarkashi.


Day 24 – Uttarkashi to Rishikesh
Drive to Rishikesh and attend evening Ganga Aarti near Ram Jhula.


Day 25 – Rishikesh to Delhi
Drive back to Delhi.


Day 26 – Departure from Delhi
Visit the Indian Mountaineering Foundation for expedition debriefing before airport transfer.
