While the main summit is closed, Nanda Devi East remains open for climbers with special permits from the Indian Mountaineering Foundation.
The expedition follows the historic Milam Glacier route through remote Himalayan villages, alpine valleys, and high-altitude terrain, offering a true expedition experience combining adventure, endurance, and technical climbing.

Mount Nanda Devi East Expedition
Day 1 – Arrival in Delhi
Arrival at Delhi International Airport. Our team will welcome you and transfer you to your hotel. The rest of the day is free for rest and recovery after your international flight.

Day 2 – IMF Visit and Expedition Briefing
Today we visit the Indian Mountaineering Foundation for the official expedition briefing and completion of formalities. Equipment inspection and final preparation for the expedition.

Day 3 – Delhi to Kathgodam – Drive to Almora (1650 m)
Morning transfer to the railway station to board the train to Kathgodam, the gateway to the Kumaon Himalayas. After arrival, drive through scenic mountain roads to the historic town of Almora.

Overnight: Hotel
Day 4 – Almora to Munsyari (2150 m)
Drive to Munsyari, a beautiful Himalayan town located at the base of the Panchachuli range. The journey offers stunning views of the Kumaon Himalayas.

Day 5 – Acclimatization Day in Munsyari
A rest day for acclimatization and completion of expedition logistics and paperwork.

Day 6 – Munsyari to Lilam (2000 m)
The trekking phase begins today. Trek through deep valleys and forests following the Gori Ganga River.

Day 7 – Lilam to Bugdiar (2480 m)
Trek through narrow gorges and scenic Himalayan trails to Bugdiar. Shepherd camps and alpine meadows are commonly seen along the route.

Day 8 – Bugdiar to Martoli (3350 m)
A spectacular day as the trail gradually opens into the high Himalayas. The historic village of Martoli offers stunning views of the Nanda Devi range.

Day 9 – Martoli to Milam (3500 m)
Trek to the historic Himalayan settlement of Milam, once an important trading village on the Indo-Tibetan route.

Day 10 – Milam to Lwani (3690 m)
Continue trekking deeper into the alpine valley toward Lwani.

Day 11 – Lwani to Nanda Devi East Base Camp (4210 m)
Trek across glacial terrain to reach the Base Camp of Mount Nanda Devi East. The expedition camp is established here.

Climbing Phase
Day 12 – Acclimatization Day
Rest and acclimatization at Base Camp. Preparation for the technical climbing phase.
Day 13 – Day 24 – Acclimatization and Establishing Camps
During these days the team will establish Camp I, Camp II, and Camp III. Climbers will carry loads, fix ropes, and acclimatize gradually. All meals including high altitude expedition food are provided.
Day 25 – Day 29 – Summit Window
These days are reserved for the summit attempt of Mount Nanda Devi East (7,434 m). The exact summit day depends on weather conditions and team readiness.
Day 30 – Day 31 – Return to Base Camp
After the summit attempt the team descends back to Base Camp. High Altitude Porters assist in transporting equipment.
Return Trek
Day 32 – Base Camp to Milam
Trek back toward Milam.
Overnight: Camp
Day 33 – Milam to Bugdiar
Day 34 – Bugdiar to Munsyari
Day 35 – Munsyari to Almora
Day 36 – Almora to Kathgodam – Train to Delhi
Day 37 – Delhi Departure
Upon arrival in Delhi, attend the expedition debriefing at the Indian Mountaineering Foundation. Later transfer to Indira Gandhi International Airport for onward journey.
